Both floorings are formed from an equal sized piece of wood arranged in a zig zag pattern. To distinguish between them, you should pay attention to the cut angle of the wood pieces and arrangement. With herringbone pattern wood is cut in perfect rectangles and then arranged so that the end of each piece meets side of another making a broken zig zag shape. On the other hand, when wood is cut on an angle and end of planks are set together to form a straight line the result is the chevron pattern flooring. In other words, in chevron pattern wood blocks meet end to end inspiring a continuous and arrow like pattern in the room while a herringbone design looks like a broken zig zag.
